Starting with field observations

Tutti is a fisheries data-entry application for scientific observers onboard vessels. It records observations made during fishing operations, including the weights and sizes of sampled fish.

My role

I designed and developed the application for Ifremer during my time at Code Lutin. The assignment included studying its integration with the central database and the information systems already used onboard vessels.

I also developed exchange interfaces with the existing information system. The aim was to connect the collected data with a coherent set of tools while respecting the context in which those data were recorded.

Experience that shapes my approach

Scientific surveys are a reminder that an application must be designed around its use. Usability, exchange formats and technical integration are complementary aspects of the same problem.
